So What Is Rabby Wallet, Exactly?
It’s a self-custodial wallet for Ethereum and every EVM-compatible chain. Self-custodial is jargon for a simple arrangement: the private keys are yours, your data stays on your machine, and Rabby can’t reach your money. Its own repository calls it “an open-source browser plugin for the DeFi ecosystem”.
Development has been out in the open on GitHub since April 9, 2021, under an MIT license, and the repo sits at 1,891 stars. DeBank’s name turns up on the audit reports, and OPCODE LABS PTE. LTD. is the publisher listed on both app stores.
Chrome’s listing puts it at 900,000 users, with a 4.0 average from 2.8K ratings, on version 0.94.7 dated September 4, 2026. New releases land most weeks. That tells you more than a star rating does.

What Rabby Wallet Actually Does
- Before you sign, Rabby runs the transaction and reports the balance change in plain words. A site can label a button “Claim” while the code quietly moves your tokens out, and that mismatch is right there on screen.
- A security engine reads each signature for known traps. It objects when the spender is a personal account rather than a contract, when a contract’s Trust Value is $0, and when the contract went live under three days ago.
- Connect to a dapp and Rabby jumps to the right chain by itself. Anyone who has ever approved something on the wrong network will appreciate that.
- The approvals screen groups permissions by contract or by asset and counts how many people revoked a given contract in the past 24 hours. You can clear a whole pile of them at once, EIP-7702 delegations included.
- GasAccount covers network fees on supported chains without you owning that chain’s native token. Claiming something on a fresh network no longer begins with a bridge.
- Swaps and bridges shop several aggregators for a rate, and Rabby approves only the amount your trade needs rather than an unlimited allowance.
Is Rabby Wallet Easy Enough for a Beginner?
Getting going takes about five minutes: install it, pick a password, write down 12 words. After that Rabby reads your address and fills in tokens, NFTs and DeFi positions by itself, with nothing to import by hand.
The signing screen is the reason to be here. You get a summary of what’s leaving and what’s arriving, and when the security engine spots something ugly the Sign button goes dead until you press “Ignore All”. We’d argue that single decision prevents more losses than any amount of red warning text ever has.
Friction? Plenty. There’s no Firefox build at all, the extension only runs in a desktop browser, and your choices come down to Chrome, Brave or Edge.
Labels such as Trust Value, price impact and EIP-7702 approvals arrive on screen with no explanation attached, which annoys us. A first-timer will be googling mid-transaction.
Mobile splits the difference. Face ID and fingerprint unlock both work, and you can restore from the extension or from an iCloud or Google Drive backup, which is genuinely handy. Then again, Google Play gives the app 4.7 from 7.27K reviews while the App Store gives it 3.5 from 1,262 ratings, and a gap that wide on one product is hard to shrug off.
How Safe Is Your Money in Rabby Wallet?
It’s a hot wallet. The keys live on a machine that’s connected to the internet, and that fact caps how safe any of this can be.
Under that cap, though, Rabby works harder than most. Source code is public under an MIT license, and the audits sit right there in the repository: a penetration test from 2021, SlowMist reports from 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025, and Least Authority reports from 2024 and 2025. The freshest two carry the dates August 21, 2025 and September 3, 2025.
Four things guard you day to day: the simulation, the security engine, the approvals screen and the whitelist. Rabby also buries anything it tags as a scam transaction, which takes the sting out of address poisoning, the trick where somebody pushes a fake transfer from a look-alike address into your history and waits for you to copy it.
Credit where it’s due, Rabby says out loud where the guardrails stop. The whitelist lives inside the app and puts no lock on the chain itself, so whoever holds your seed phrase can load the wallet somewhere else and empty it. Watch-only addresses track balances and sign nothing.
Two gaps stand out to us. Forget your password and there’s no reset link, only wiping the extension or reinstalling the app and coming back in through your seed phrase. Rabby also publishes no incident page, so there’s no official record in either direction.
Which Coins and Chains Rabby Wallet Actually Holds
Any token on an EVM network is fine. Everything outside EVM is not, and the help center spells out Bitcoin, Solana and Tron by name. Try sending from one of those chains to a Rabby address and it won’t be accepted as valid.
How many chains come integrated depends on which Rabby page you happen to open. One help article claims “80+ networks”, a second says “over 90”, and the wallet’s public API handed us 72 chains on September 6, 2026. Go by the list in the extension, under Settings then Integrated Chains.
Missing a network? Add it at Settings then Add Custom Network, where there’s also a Quick add from Chainlist shortcut. Custom chains stay second class, though: you get token amounts, and no prices, no valuations and no history.
NFTs and DeFi positions both appear, and a toggle pulls your liquidity provider tokens into the list. Junk NFTs stay hidden unless you ask for them, you can list on OpenSea or take the top offer without leaving Rabby, and a few NFTs still turn up as blank tiles.
What Rabby Wallet Costs You
Nothing, to install. That covers Chrome, iOS, Android and the macOS and Windows desktop builds, and no subscription or paid tier waits behind any of them.
Trading is where the money gets made. A 0.25% service fee at the time of writing (September 2026) applies to swaps and to bridges, folded into the quote instead of shown on its own line. Keep that in mind before you hold Rabby’s rate up against a DEX.
Some pairs escape it. Swap between two stablecoins on the same chain, or between ETH and ETH DeFi tokens such as WETH, stETH and wstETH, and Rabby takes nothing. GasAccount carries no service fee either, though you still pay the network cost of Rabby sending gas over to your address.
Perps sit in their own box. That feature runs on Hyperliquid, so Hyperliquid’s trading fees and builder fees apply, and it’s easy to miss the moment you leave wallet territory for trading territory.
Get it from rabby.io or the official store listings, and nowhere else. Rabby says flatly that any Firefox add-on wearing its name is fake, and that support never happens over Telegram.
Where Rabby Wallet Wins and Where It Doesn’t
Read those two columns together and the shape is obvious. Rabby is superb at the moment you sign and thin almost everywhere else, and that’s a bargain we’d take happily if EVM chains are where you actually live.
Setting Up Rabby Wallet, Step by Step
- Grab the extension from rabby.io in Chrome, Brave or Edge, and type that address in yourself rather than trusting a search ad. Firefox has no legitimate Rabby build, so treat anything you find there as malicious.
- A setup page opens on its own. Pick “Create a new address”, or “I already have an address” if you’re arriving from MetaMask, Trust Wallet or OKX.
- Choose a password. It unlocks the extension on this machine and encrypts what’s stored locally, and since Rabby keeps no copy of it, forgetting it means resetting the whole thing.
- Hit “Back up Seed phrase now” and copy the 12 words onto paper or steel, offline. Whoever reads them owns your money. And if you ever send crypto to the wrong network or the wrong address, it’s gone for good, with nobody able to reverse it.
- Plug in a hardware wallet if you own one. With Ledger on the extension: attach the USB cable, unlock with your PIN, open the Ethereum app until it reads “Application is ready”, then click Allow and Connect.
- Put the addresses you use often on the whitelist, then switch on “Password for non-whitelisted transfers” in Settings. It’s the most practical thing you can do about address poisoning.
What to Use Instead of Rabby Wallet
MetaMask
Dapps assume MetaMask. Rabby’s README even asks developers to put a Rabby button beside the MetaMask one, which tells you plenty about who owns the default.

Calling a hardware wallet an alternative isn’t quite right, because it’s more of a partner. Ledger connects to the Rabby extension over USB and to the phone app over Bluetooth, so you keep the readable signing screen while the keys move offline. So is Rabby Wallet safe to use?
Safe enough, with one caveat. It’s a hot wallet, so your keys sit on your device. The code is open under an MIT license, SlowMist and Least Authority publish audits in the repo, the newest dated August and September 2025, and every transaction gets simulated before you sign.
Does Rabby Wallet cost anything?
No. Chrome, iOS and Android all cost nothing. Swaps and bridges take a 0.25% service fee that’s already inside the quote, though same-chain stablecoin and ETH pairs are exempt.
Can I keep Bitcoin or Solana in Rabby Wallet?

How do I move over from MetaMask?
Import the seed phrase or private key while you’re setting Rabby up. Nothing happens to your tokens, NFTs or DeFi positions, because they sit on the blockchain and not inside either app.

Install it if you’re signing contracts on EVM chains most weeks and you’d like to know what you’re agreeing to. Those two features, the simulation and the approvals screen, are the reason to move, and neither costs a cent.
Walk away if Bitcoin or Solana holds your money, if Firefox is your browser, or if you want a single app for everything you own. Our verdict: nowhere makes an EVM transaction easier to read, provided you put a hardware wallet behind anything you’d hate to lose.
